Magento Vs Shopify : Which One Should You Choose? [Infographic]

The Enterprise Guide to Global E-commerce anticipates that there will be a 246.5% increase in worldwide e-commerce sales, going from $1.3 trillion in 2014 to $4.5 trillion in 2021.

That is more than a three times increase in online revenue. And the numbers might even surpass this figure, with more and more businesses realizing and utilizing the potential of e-commerce. Even small stores are establishing their online stores as they know it to be the way forward.

We owe this e-commerce revolution to the numerous e-commerce platforms available today that have made it so easy for even the smallest businesses to start their online stores.

The two biggest names that come to mind are, of course, Shopify and Magento. With both names being equally popular and offering their own unique array of features and functionalities, you might find yourself a little between the two, not knowing exactly which of the two e-commerce platforms would suit you better.

Powerful e-commerce platforms today offer much more along with these most basic of functionalities and that is what makes them so popular with businesses today. But which one is better? Before we dive into Magento vs Shopify, let’s look at them individually.

Shopify

Shopify is an e-commerce platform for online stores and retail point of sale systems. It also has an API platform and an app store.

Developers can use the API to develop solutions for the Shopify platform and then sell them on the Shopify App Store. According to statistics, Shopify powers close to 600,000 sites today.

The number of Shopify apps and add-ons is over 2,300. It offers more than 60 unique themes for its users while also allowing users to purchase additional themes of their choice if they desire.

Due to the amazing customer support, ease of use and the inclusion of hosting in the monthly plans, Shopify has seen tremendous usage growth.

Magento

Though Magento hasn’t been around for as long as Shopify it has still gained wide adoption by businesses worldwide for their e-commerce solution of choice.

The key elements of an e-commerce store revolve around its strong design and architecture.

Keeping the same in mind Magento 2.0 was released in 2015. The primary focus was on providing new ways to increase and improve user engagement, smooth navigation, conversion rates, and overall revenue generation for the online stores that choose it as their e-commerce platform of choice.

The two versions of the e-commerce platform coexist and are available for use. Being open source means that Magento gives you free reign when it comes to customization and developing your own Magento compatible solutions.

Today Magento powers over 250,000 sites worldwide. The number of apps and available add-ons is over 3,000, but being open source, the platform allows you to build

It only offers a limited number of themes which is much less than Shopify, but additional themes can always be purchased. Magento does not provide hosting which is one of the main reasons why you can start using it for free.
